  1. A telegram from Paris:

Arrived safely Friday morning, settled into the dormitory, met other students from all over the world, procured metro pass, discovering the city, went to the Tour Eiffel today, viewed incredible sights, will visit the Louvre on Sunday, recovering from jet-lag, classes will start on Monday morning.

A quote from Gustave Eiffel: ''Can one think that because we are engineers, beauty does not preoccupy us or that we do not try to build beautiful, as well as solid and long lasting structures? Aren't the genuine functions of strength always in keeping with unwritten conditions of harmony? ... Besides, there is an attraction, a special charm in the colossal to which ordinary theories of art do not apply.

  3. Good Morning from Brownsville:

My name is Joel S. Garza and I am a doctoral student from UTB/TSC. We just returned from our trip to China and our experience was one that was truly an eye-opener in several ways. The simple fact that we experienced a different way of life in a different setting allowed us to understand our own way of life. Although our trip aimed at learning educational practices in China, it also enabled us to understand people's thoughts, perceptions, customs, and differences in life-styles, not to mention the amazing historic and touristic places. I personally enjoyed learning about Chinese art, drama, music, education, and sports.

I wanted to write to you today to encourage you to see and learn as much as possible and to take advantage of the opportunity of being part of different cultures. Perhaps it may seem as a long time until you return home, but in the end you may find that part of you will change without you knowing. I am sure this trip will enable you to see your future through a different lens as our China experience did for us. Above all, feel proud to be representing UTB/TSC and Brownsville, Texas anywhere you go.

    Good Luck!!!
    Joel S. Garza
